Ayrshire and Arran
Unforgettable scenery, castles and historic sites galore make Ayrshire a people’s place, with a strong community sense, an independence of mind and a humour not only evident today, but also through the area’s colourful history. Its heroes include freedom fighter William Wallace (as seen in Mel Gibson’s film ‘Braveheart’), the remarkable King Robert the Bruce, and the people’s poet Robert Burns. Mary Queen of Scots was an early tourist and is said to have enjoyed her visit. Static caravan owners can base themselves at one of the area’s 25 or so caravan parks, leaving them free to explore this fascinating county. The Isle of Arran, “Scotland in miniature”, is a wonderful site for a log cabin, easily accessible by a short ferry ride. This is an area with much to offer locally situated static caravan owners, possessing stunning country parks and gardens, gourmet dining, ancient castles, bustling market towns, a beautiful coastline with pretty villages, and some of the finest golf courses in the world. The Isle of Arran also offers superb walking and hill walking for mobile home holidaymakers – there are 10 summits over 2000 feet, with dozens of ridge routes. Other outdoor pursuits include tennis, yachting, pony trekking, bowling, quad biking, paragliding, fishing and cycling. Wildlife fans can hope to glimpse red deer, seals, basking sharks, golden eagles and the impressive sea eagle. Nearby, the Isle of Cumbrae is a paradise for cyclists. The 10.25 mile circumference provides breathtaking scenery from quiet winding roads and the hillier inner route provides the more adventurous with stunning panoramas over the firth. This is a perfect place for cyclists to set up a static caravan as a base for many exhilarating cycling holidays.
