County Tyrone
Tyrone, the largest county in Northern Ireland, is the perfect place to get away on log cabin or mobile home holidays. Static caravan owners will find fascinating prehistoric sites, lovely forest parks with herds of deer, and of course the beautiful Sperrin Mountains, which stretch for nearly 65 kilometres. With blanket bogs and heather on the upper reaches and farmland and wooded valleys in the foothills, the Sperrins offer excellent attractions for hill walkers and cyclists. Static caravan holidaymakers can fish for trout in the tributaries of the River Foyle, or see the many standing stones and burial cairns in the area. Near Cookstown, the 10th Century Ardboe Cross, the Iron Age fort at Tullyhogue, and the Beaghmore Stone Circles only discovered some forty years ago are also all great sites for mobile home holidaymakers interested in history. Families can take a trip to the Tyrone Crystal factory in Dungannon and see molten glass being hand-blown.Tyrone is also home to the Chambered Cairn positioned at the peak of a steep and enchanting forest hill, the Ulster-American Folk Park, surrounding the cottage that was home to the infamous Thomas Mellon, and the ancestral home of Woodrow Wilson, who later became the president of the United States – the house is still lived in by the family who kindly give mobile home visitors a guided tour of the house.
