Dumfries and Galloway
This large Scottish county of Dumfries and Galloway on the south west tip of Scotland has around sixty caravan parks from which mobile home tourists can explore and enjoy the counties historical and scenic attractions. The southern coastline of Dumfries and Galloway on the Solway Firth is warmed by the Gulf Stream and known as the Scottish Riviera because of its mild climate, and is a perfect site for a log cabin. Dumfries and Galloway County features some of the finest scenery in Scotland, and some of the rarest species. This rich natural heritage makes it a special place for those who come to holiday in their static caravans. The area is a haven for walking, cycling and fishing – mobile home owners that love walking should know about the Galloway Hills, a fine collection of summits within a compact area. These are awesome hills, remote and elusive, rewarding determined walkers with breathtaking views of extensive moorland, shimmering lonely hill lochs, silvery burns and gushing waterfalls, deep glens and imposing rock outcrops.Other tourist attractions of the region include the Solway Firth, Glen Trool National Forest Park, with Bruce’s Stone on Moss Raploch where King Robert the Bruce is said to have rested after defeating the English in 1307, and Ruthwell Cross - a runic cross dated from about AD 800 in the village of Ruthwell – as well as numerous well-kept castles.
Film buffs will be excited to know that low budget British cult classic horror film The Wicker Man, starring Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward, was filmed in the Dumfries and Galloway region. However, mush more significant is the fact that Robert Burns – Scotland's best-loved poet and the symbol of the regeneration of a nation – lived, worked and died in Dumfries.
