Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire is the first county you come to as you head north out of London on the A1. Mobile home owners wanting to enjoy the thrills of London, but escape the commotion of the massive city in the evening, will find a number of caravan parks perfect as a base to do just that.
But Hertfordshire has attractions of its own for the static caravan tourist, especially those interested in history. The county’s numerous heritage sites will provide many days of interest for mobile home holidaymakers. Hertfordshire's top tourist attraction is Hatfield House, one of the best examples of a Jacobean country house and garden in England. The house has strong associations with Elizabeth I, who spent much of her childhood in the Tudor wing of what was once Hatfield Palace. Famed for its summer pop festivals, Knebworth House is a Tudor mansion that was transformed into a kind of gothic fantasy castle complete with turrets and battlements by eminent Victorian, Lord Lytton. Lytton’s son was Viceroy of India when Queen Victoria was crowned Empress, an event commemorated by an impressive display of Raj memorabilia for static caravan tourists to admire. Shaw's Corner in Ayot St Lawrence is the Victorian villa where playwright George Bernard Shaw lived for many years until his death in 1950. The villa has a revolving summerhouse, where he is said to have written "Pygmalion" (on which the film “My Fair Lady” is based). St. Albans Cathedral now stands on the site where Albanus became England’s first Christian martyr, beheaded in 209 AD.
