Nottingham
Nottingham originally bore the rather less flattering name of Snotingham before the Danes renamed it. It began as the small village of Snotta from the Old English for 'a place with caverns' – prehistoric people left many cave dwellings beneath the town. Think of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and you will immediately think of Robin Hood and his Sherwood Forest adventures. This county has about fifteen caravan parks from which you can explore these exciting legends, as well as Nottingham’s other riveting attractions. Tales of Robin Hood Theme Park offers static caravan and log cabin owners on holiday with their families the opportunity to travel through medieval Nottingham in unique adventure cars, and undertake exciting themed escapades.Nottinghamshire's other tourist attractions Nottingham Castle Museum and Art gallery, and the Tudor mansion Wollaton Hall. The Trip to Jerusalem Inn – one of England’s oldest inns, not redecorated since the 12th century – is actually carved out of the side of the mountain and has a secret tunnel that went from the old castle to the pub. It was the place to go before embarking on the Crusades, and legend has it that Richard I – Richard Lionheart – drank here. Mr Straw’s house on the face of it is an ordinary 1920s semi-detached house, but inside it is a fascinating time-capsule of the 1930s. Owned by brothers William and Walter Straw, the house was left untouched by brothers when their parents died in the Thirties - even the calendar remains unturned. Other nearby attractions for mobile home holidaymakers include the DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum - the author is one of Nottingham's most famous sons. Nottingham is also home to world-famous Raleigh bicycles, Holme Pierrepont Hall, Nottingham Lace Market and the Nottingham Goose Fair held every October.
