Shetland Islands
The Shetland Islands consist of approximately 100 individual islands, though the vast majority of these are uninhabited. Many flights and ferries mean the islands are easily accessible. For mobile home and log cabin owners wanting to explore the wilderness, then a static caravan parked on one of the islands’ handful of caravan parks will provide the perfect base from which you can begin your intrepid exploration of this remarkable archipelago. For somewhere so far north, Shetland has a remarkably mild climate, thanks to warm Atlantic currents flowing alongside the islands, and has the luxury of 19 hours of daylight at midsummer, meaning mobile home-based adventures can go long into the night without any fear of being lost in the dark.Anywhere in the Shetlands is no further than three miles from the glorious coastline. Picturesque hills and moors, farms and the scenic shore with its rugged cliff faces and cascading waves are the perfect place for mobile home holidaymakers to sit and relax.
Shetland is also home to many ruins dating back as early as the Stone Age, including a historic village with buildings ranging from the Stone Age to the seventeenth century. For a taste of history, Croft House Museum is well worth a visit, presenting mobile home holidaymakers with crafting life from nineteenth century.
Lerwick is the capital of the Shetland Islands and its busy harbour has been categorized as one of the chief ports in Britain. The harbour, the most northerly in the UK, is popular with yachts, cruise liners and motor cruisers, especially during summer. For static caravan tourists wanting a taste of Shetland Islands commerce, Lerwick has a large selection of both modern and more traditional stores, and fine cuisines from all around the globe.
